Few of us do not know Malcolm Hammersley, our new President. He was born in England, and came to Hong Kong in 1974 as a Telecom Engineer. Since then he spent a considerable part of his life in Hong Kong and dedicated his energies to our common hobby. He first served as Secretary in the Hong Kong Philatelic Society in about 1982/3 He is an avid collector of HK postal stationery and his collection fetched international gold award in 2002. He is also a keen golfer. So, what does he bring to his position? I asked our new President. YOUTH, he answered immediately. We have a responsibility to pass down this hobby to the next generation. We want our new generation to understand and enjoy the passion of collecting, and enjoy showing people what you have got. You will not collect unless you build a relationship with it. Instead of spreading ourselves thin, we could focus our effort by “adopting” 2-3 middle schools and coach them intensively. There are different ways of exhibiting: you could exhibit by FIP rules; or by your own rules, input from audiences. Do write down what others cannot see - that’s your research! I like to be an enabler, a facilitator - and hope you would be happy with your hobby. by Danny Wong
